Khawateen, are you ready to tie that dupatta and reclaim public spaces online and offline? Join Girls At Dhaba as they break the glass ceiling with the first episode of their podcast #BehencharaDiaries. Listen as 4 women from 3 corners of Pakistan talk about “Loitering” and join in with your comments and suggestions! Join together to place a solid chapair on the face of patriarchy and negative elements.

Patari per ronaq mela has started as Cornetto Pop Rock Season 2 has arrived. Komal Rizvi nay chittay kuker ki shaan main “Yeh Kya Hua” gaya hai. Track tau track, video is simply brilliant as Komal ka raqs bohat dilfaraib hai. It’s a song for this year’s wedding season!

Patari has Guru Lahori’s new song “Woh” produced by Afraah Tafreeh Music and trust us, dhamal paa ditta boys nay! Zayada yeh woh na karain aur ja k forun sunain “Woh”.

O kithay? Sit down as we have a brilliant album “Elhaam” of Sounds Of Kolachi. It’s a collection of 8 brilliant tracks hitting different chords of mysticism and love.

If there is one song you need to listen and praise, it’s “Fiction” by Abdullah Siddiqui. He’s only 17 and his voice is behtareen. Produced by Foreversouth Music,  this is the song for peaceful and serene getaways.

Qisa khatam, paisa hazam. Before we leave, we would like to share a wisdom quote: “Bilawajha haarnay walay ko Lahore Qalandars kehtay hain.” Tata tey bye bye.

Patari Tabeer & Year In Review

Hi {name}

Hum phir aa gaye but is baar ek tabeer k sath. Patari Tabeer!

A project that has been over eight months in the making, Patari Tabeer is almost ready to be released. Par yeh hai kya?

Well, Patari Tabeer is the culmination of six dreams. We brought together voices from those areas of Pakistan that the mainstream forgets about, and paired them with top producers to make six amazing songs. They include a sweeper from Islamabad, a rapper from Lyari, a peon from Sukkur, a tea-seller from Sibbi, a young girl from Peshawar and nomadic singers from inner Sindh.
We will start releasing these songs from this week, so stay tuned to our social media pages. But tab tak ke liye, enjoy the gorgeous cover art for the project, designed by the marvellous Shehzil Malik.

Wondering what 2017 has for you? Chorain jee as Patari brings you Year In Review. Jee haan, konsa artist the hit, konsa tha miss. Kisne kiya apka replay button tehes-nehes? Everything is available in Patari’s Year In Review 2016Not only this but you can also view your own year in music.

This week’s homepage ko yes karayein as we have 3 new albums and an exclusive track by Zameer “Oh Yea!”. Acha bus. Ab aglay haftay. Hamaray sath rahiye ga!

Patari Tabeer went to Faisalabad!

Hi {name}

We hope we have landed in your email and you are happy to see us. If not to bohat afsos ki baat hai.

What has Patari been doing? Well, Patari Tabeer went to Punjab this time around and Nazar Gill’s self-penned Jugni, 4th song of Patari Tabeer,  was released. Nazar Gill, a house cleaner, who wanted the world to hear his voice, knocked on the door of his employer, and asked him to hear a song he had written, called Jugni. That was the moment that gave birth to #PatariTabeer. Jugni is a beautiful collaboration between Nazar and Farhan Zameer. Dil melt hoga ap ka sun kay. Nazar ki story kya hai? Idher daikhain.

If you haven’t updated Patari app, you must do it right away as new update daikh k ap ki aankhain chamak jayein gi. Jee haan, Patari now has a separate literature section including audiobooks, poetry and podcast. Mazay he mazay!

Important ailaan: Patari Tabeer’s 5th episode will be released sometime this week. Stay tuned for stunning scenes from inner Sindh.

Chalain bus kafi baat cheet hogai. We will get back to our day dreaming.

Until the next Haftanama –

The Podcast Culture

New age technology is all about making everything easier. Too tired to click a button? Here’s complete touch screen. Too tired to look for original Pakistani songs on Soundcloud? Here is Patari. Too tired to run after a girl with a boombox on your shoulders? Here’s tinder. Basically, if it doesn’t reduce human effort, it’s useless.

A while ago when electronic media was introduced, people were sure that newspapers would become obsolete, but defying all odds like Donald Trump, newspapers somehow made it through. The same was thought about books when audio-books were introduced, but just like Karan Johar’s movies; the hype was a mole disguised as a mountain. Did the audiobooks really fail, though?

Let’s go back to when the radio was the only entertainment in our lives. Be it ‘The King’s Speech’ or the announcement of the creation of a new country, people led their simple lives with the chatter of the radio in the background. TVs replaced radios like a news anchor changes his Twitter bio after changing the channel he works at. But the audio culture didn’t die. And soon, the internet introduced “podcasts”: digital audio files, available as a series. Gaining popularity in the world, Pakistani listeners were still not too keen on the idea. Patari Statistics are proof:

So, we decided to dedicate a day to podcasts only and experiment with a variety of things people can plug and play. Or in this case, click and play. What do people love to hear the most, we asked ourselves. The answers helped us make a petri dish of a collection of podcasts to see what sticks!

Patari’s main tile featured the legendary Zia Mohyeddin, who, apart from being a legendary artist, producer, director and broadcaster, also had a voice tuned by angels and the time to put it to good use. Bless him for recording the short stories of a number of famous Urdu writers and poets. His podcast was as enthusiastically welcomed as hot samosas at aftaar.

Ismat Chughtai needs no introduction: a fierce short story writer who could play the whole story on the screen of your mind.

Urdu Adab podcast aims to spread Urdu Adab to people who cannot read or write Urdu. It contains short stories which are meaningful, funny, romantic & sarcastic as well as some poetry and literature.

Next up was a podcast for the science geeks in us! Creation of the universe, cosmic reasoning, saari qayenaat aap ka scene on karanay ki sazish kesay karti hai and many other questions were discussed by Absar Taqvi in this Cosmology Podcast.

The MadArtCulture Podcast features a discussion on pop culture and everything that’s happening in the art scene. Providing 411 on all that’s hot, millenial podcast = check.

But what is a podcast that isn’t sassy, cut throat, informative but critical at the same time? Our homepage also featured The Padded Room’s take on the latest Hollywood movie Dr. Strange (spoiler alert!)

And Mahwash Ajaz’s review on the drama series Khuda Mera Bhi Hai (spoiler alert here too!)

Alea Rizvi’s Nostalgia does justice to its name and makes you feel all those feelings that you saved up in the treasure chest of your memories.

The page wrapped up with Podcast Shodcast, a weekly podcast revolving around Pakistani affairs and phenomena, run by users of /r/Pakistan on Reddit.

Covering (what we think) areas of everybody’s interests, we think we sorta kinda did a pretty good job. What do you think?

Facebook adds Patari as Friend

Patari - Music StoriesToday, all of us at Patari are super excited to announce our partnership with Facebook, for a new initiative called Music Stories. It was a process that took 7 months of technical and legal efforts to ensure that our 100% #MadeInPakistan platform was up to vilayti standards, and much like Mohammad Amir’s bowling, we were. Not only have we managed to legalize Pakistani music, we have done it to international standards!

So now, every time you share a Patari link on Facebook, you’ll see a preview window which will let you listen to the song without leaving Facebook. It’s a huge step for us to be chosen by Facebook (have we said Facebook enough times?) to be their partners in Pakistan, and should be a great way to introduce more people to Pakistani music.

Next time you’re in Palo Alto (Inshallah aap ke aisay khwaab jald pooray hon) and there’s a party at the Zuckerbergs, waltz in and if security tries to hassle you, just take out your Patari app, wave it in their faces and go “Nighat pliz, mei Mark ka/ki personal friend hun”.
